I have opened all the cabinets etc and have an idea of what is there. I have cleaned the ways and screws and everything looks pretty good mechanically. This mill was filthy - which is probably why it is not rusted having been stored in an unheated warehouse with a bad roof. I expect to keep this machine for 25 years - assuming I am still sucking air. I recently sold a 1927 16 inch Monarch I had for 35 years - only because the Harrison 12 x 40 is so much nicer and easier to use - and it has reasonable spindle speeds. I buy cheap crap - fix it up - and keep it for ever. I have no desire to be a production shop. It is mostly for personal enjoyment, but I am retired now and could use some occasional side jobs to pay for the hobby. I make scientific equipment, prototypes to test, and do maintenance and machine rebuilding tasks in my shop. I am an engineer and physicist with lots of computer and electronics experience and I have had a pretty extensive but all manual shop for 35 years - but absolutely nothing CNC - no CNC programming experience. I just bought a Lagun CNC mill, got it home, and am in the process of figuring out what I have and what I should do with it.
